SATA or SSD?
Intro
For your PC or laptop, which type of storage should you buy? Here we have the two most common choice of digital storage, an SSD or a SATA drive.
What's a SSD?
An SSD is a type of storage that, contrary to SATA drives, has no moving parts. These make it considerably faster than SATAs, up to 150% speed or more. Downsides to an SSD are the costs. SSDs generally go for about a dollar per GB of storage, which is much more expensive than SATA drives. Common SSDs are 250 GB Kingston HyperXs for 250$.
What's a SATA drive?
A SATA drive is a type of storage that uses a disk to write and store data. Boot up times of SATA drives are only about 60 to 45% of what SSDs provide, but SATA drives are much cheaper, usually going for 2 TBs for about 80$ or so.
Conclusion
If you are looking to save money, SATA drives are the way to go. For a much faster computer where money is not an issue, you should invest in Solid State Drives for massively increased PC speed. However, the smartest option when it comes to storage, is to put your operating system (Windows,Linux, etc) on a SSD, for fast boot up times, then store your documents pictures or other media on a SATA or Hard Drive. This keeps your PC at a relavant speed while spending your money right.
